When I rented from Avis, the “customer service” guy put a $200 hold on my bank account because I used a debit card (BIG mistake by the way, use a credit card always!). But it wasn’t just one $200 hold, they actually charged me THREE $200 holds for the three days after I returned my car. This put a huge strain on my savings and I didn’t have enough money for rent until this was cleared up!
Avis blamed the bank, but the bank calmly explained to me it was all Avis’ doing. It took multiple phone calls to customer service to solve the problem … that’s not trying harder at all.
